R.A.R.E Awards - 27-11-2007
|
| | R.A.R.E Awards
The Renaissance Suite in Bellini's was awash on Friday 16 November with good humour and camaraderie as Newry and Mourne District Council celebrated its first staff awards ceremony.
The ceremony known internally as the R.A.R.E Awards was created to Recognise Achievement and Reward Excellence to the workers of Newry & Mourne District Council, the whole process was made possible by funding from profits made in a previous Good Relations conference and was overseen by the Council's Equality Unit.
Staff of the Council were given the opportunity to nominate their workmates or people employed by the Council who they felt deserved a pat on the back or some sort of recognition or reward for their work, conduct, achievements or their personnel skills. There were six categories that ranged from ‘New Start' to ‘Eco Warrior' and included ‘Leading The Way', ‘Bridge Builder', ‘Service With A Smile' and ‘Above and Beyond'.
All the staff short -listed and the people who nominated them were invited to the Awards ceremony where the winners in each category were presented with an engraved Tyrone Crystal vase. Framed certificates were also presented to all those short-listed.
Mayor of Newry & Mourne, Councillor Michael Cole said, " This award ceremony is something that I'm personally delighted to see happening. Working alongside so many of the Council's staff. I see the range of tasks that are undertaken daily. Tonight is an evening for the staff to relax and enjoy themselves. It's a way of saying thank-you and well done to all those who play their part in delivering our frontline services day in and day out."
The Winners were from various sections within the Council and were representative of many different teams and departments. They were,
‘Eco Warriors' -
‘Leading The Way' -
‘Bridge Builder' -
‘Service With A Smile' -
‘Above and Beyond' -
The delighted winners and their guests and fellow staff dined at Bellini's before being entertained by Newry's well-known comedian ‘Big O'. The evening was a great success and the Council hope to build on this to Recognise Achievement & Reward Excellence again next year. www.newryandmourne.govuk
