New Recycling Initiative for Charity - 31-01-2008

Newry and Mourne District Council have joined partnership with a new company http://www.newryandmourne.gov.uk/www.ComputerBitsandBobs.com. who will recycle inkjet/ toner cartridges and mobile phones for charity.

New Recycling Initiative

Every year millions of cartridges and mobile phones are thrown into landfill sites around Northern Ireland. Now the residents of Newry and Mourne will be able recycle these items in aid of a local charity "Mary's Trust"

Mary Mooney, a young woman from Newry, died in February 2003. The cause of her death was Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). Her mother Kathleen has set up the charity and is campaigning tirelessly to raise awareness and fund the placement of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDS) in several local schools. Secondary schools, The Abbey Grammar, St Josephs and St Pauls have already received this life saving equipment.

New Recycling Initiative

The Mayor, Cllr Michael Cole said, " The Council are delighted to be able to expand their recycling facilities whilst at the same time raise money for this important charity. We encourage all householders to bring their old mobile phones and inkjet/toner cartridges along to their Civic Amenity Site. Householders won't just be helping charity, by recycling they will be reducing waste and saving on oil reserves - over 1.5 litres of oil are needed to produce a new toner cartridge from scratch."

http://www.newryandmourne.gov.uk/www.ComputerBitsandBobs.com., a Newry based company, have placed recycling containers at all 7 of the Districts' Civic Amenity Sites. As an incentive to recycle they are offering anyone who uses the facility a chance to win an Xbox 360. When posting a cartridge or mobile into the container please include your name, address, telephone number and email (if available). You will be entered into a draw which will take place on 17th March 2008. Winners will be notified by post. Depending on the success of the scheme more prizes will be donated.
