Tribute to murdered policeman The Prime Minster has attended a memorial service in honour of PC Jonathan Henry, murdered while on duty in Luton town centre last year.
Speaking to around 250 assembled guests, including PC Henry's wife and daughter and Michael Winner, founder of the Police Memorial Trust, the PM expressed his thanks to the police and other emergency services for their dedication to the public. He also paid tribute to the courage of PC Henry, a man who "gave up his life for his fellow citizens and his police force". Mr Brown accompanied Mary Henry through a police guard of honour and also unveiled an engraved stone monument at the location on George Street where PC Henry was assaulted and stabbed in June 2007. The PM said: "Winston Churchill, one of the great Prime Ministers who took us through so many difficult times, said courage was the greatest quality of all because he said upon courage everything else depends; our safety, our security, and our livelihoods. "There was no man more courageous than the man we are remembering today, who gave up his life for his fellow citizens and for his police force. I am privileged to be here today." In her address, Mrs Henry said her husband was a hero, a "dedicated officer" who had lost his life while trying to make the town a safer place to live.
