The principle is based upon the fact that many electrical appliances will work more efficiently and use less energy at slightly lower voltages. Our network grid delivers electricity to our homes at a nominal 240V. In practice, for the network to work effectively, voltages can vary between 253V and 216V, and are often at the higher end of this scale. Across Europe electrical appliances have to be designed to operate as low as 207V.

How Much Will It Save?
VPhase back to back testing has shown that if we can reduce the incoming voltage by about 10% appliances can save significant amounts; fridges and freezers 17%, lighting 10% to 15% and hi-fi, televisions, computers etc. between 3% and 13%.

Any heating devices will not save energy at lower voltages so you wouldn't normally regulate electric cooking, heating, showers etc. But these circuits are usually segregated at the fuse board. The VPhase unit is therefore wired into the fuse board (consumer unit) regulating just the socket outlets and lighting circuits.

The company have conducted trials, the results of which have been independently checked, showing whole house savings of between 6% and 12% of the annaul electricity bill.

Installing a VPhase is very similar to topping up loft insulation in terms of the cost to install and payback periods. Savings of up to £80 a year off electricity bills have been demonstrated. According to back-to-back tests a VPhase device will save a massive 17% of the energy used by fridges and freezers, 15% by traditional light bulbs and even energy saving light bulbs can save 10%.

Installation
The VPhase unit MUST be installed by a professional electrician. It is designed to be fitted alongside the fuse board (sometimes called distribution board or consumer unit) and is about the same size. The socket outlets and lighting circuits should be segregated on the fuse board and the VPhase unit wired to regulate only those circuits.
