Responsibility for stray dogs now rests with borough council - 03-09-2008

Police in Maidstone are no longer responsible for collecting and housing stray or lost dogs.

The law changed earlier this year to make stray dogs the responsibility of the local councils, however Maidstone police agreed under a temporary arrangement to continue to deal with stray dogs.

This temporary arrangement has now ended and the responsibility for stray dogs will rest with Maidstone Borough Council and anyone needing to report a stray dog should contact them on the following dedicated telephone number 01622 602117

After office hours the number reverts to the KCC emergency out of hours service.
