Police arrested two men for theft and recovered stolen property on 26 August after a series of break ins to sheds and garages in the Loose Road area of Maidstone. In response to this police will be stepping up patrols in the area and are encouraging homeowners to report any suspicious activity as soon as possible on 01622 690055. In addition, letters have gone out to over 300 residents offering crime prevention advice and giving the opportunity to purchase shed alarms and property marking kits at a reduced rate. Despite these recent incidents, shed theft has reduced by 18% in the area over the last year. Lorraine Hemphrey, Neighbourhood Watch Liaison Officer comments; "Some valuables have been recovered and we are not able to identify the owners. We recommend that you use the UV marking pens to mark your equipment with your postcode and house number. Other crime prevention items can be purchased from us, by phoning 01622 604395. Items such as shed alarms and Selecta DNA, which will mark up to 120 items, are available to purchase and more information can be provided on request." A 17 year old man and a 22 year old man have been bailed pending further enquiries to return to Maidstone police station on 31 October. |
