It's your night out - Don't spend it with us! - 22-07-2008

'It's your night out, don't spend it with us!' That's the message Hinckley and Bosworth Community Safety Partnership is giving to people this summer.

Revellers in the town centre are being warned that if they drink too much and start causing trouble for other people enjoying a summer night out they will be taken to the Lock'em Inn.

Inspector Martyn Ball, commander of Hinckley and Bosworth local policing unit (LPU), said: "Our safer summer Lock'em Inn campaign will reinforce the message that drink related anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

"Anyone acting up will be taken to the Hinckley police station, or as we affectionately refer to it as the Lock'em Inn. They might even be forced into making a long weekend of it - get arrested on Saturday and stay with us until court on Monday!"

As part of the Hinckley and Bosworth Community Safety Partnership's priority to continue to reduce anti-social behaviour and violent crime in the town centre, the safer summer Lock'em Inn campaign will run from the middle of July to the end of August.

Radio adverts are set to play over the summer, Bluetooth messages with crime prevention advice will be sent to people walking through town and a series of posters and leaflets will be in pubs and shops.

Ron Grantham, community safety manager for Hinckley and Bosworth Community Safety Partnership, said: "This campaign is not about stopping people having fun. We are working in partnership with the local policing unit to ensure everyone enjoys the summer months safely and free from fear.

"All we are saying to people is have fun, keep safe, think of others and stay within the Law."

The Community Safety Partnership, which includes Hinckley LPU, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and other agencies, will be running a number of initiatives as part of its summer campaign.

A ‘Safe Route' using PCSOs on routes out of the town centre at critical times has been orgainised. A street pastors scheme in partnership with St Francis Community Centre is also ongoing.

There will also be a higher police presence in the town centre on Friday and Saturday nights.

For more information about the summer campaign please contact PC 1289 Clive Clarke at Leicestershire Constabulary on (0116) 222 2222 and enter his identification 1289 when prompted and leave a message.
