CELEBRATIONS will take place at Taylor Road Primary School on Monday, to mark the start of building work on their new £9.3 million school. Taylor Road school opened in 1932, and its governors are hoping to find the oldest former pupil to help them with their celebrations. Headteacher Chris Hassall said: "We'd like the oldest past pupil to join our youngest pupil, to turn the first sod of earth in our ground-breaking ceremony". The ceremony will take place at the school on the St Matthews estate on Monday 19th May. Mr Hassall can be contacted at the school by ringing 262 4597. The new school is set open in autumn 2009. It will provide 630 school places and a 39-place nursery, in a state-of-the-art building. The school will also be open to the local community offering sports, leisure and training facilities, and meeting and function rooms. The building is jointly funded by Leicester City Council and the government. |
