A Loughborough man has been sentenced to four and half year's imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court today for killing his 10-week-old daughter. Wayne Robertson (30) of Russell Street, Loughborough admitted the manslaughter of Lila Robertson at the start of his trial at Birmingham Crown Court last month. Lila died on November 14, 2006, three days after being admitted to hospital with brain and eye injuries. The court heard how Robertson had become "frustrated and annoyed" when he was left alone with her. He admitted to squeezing and shaking her. Detective Superintendent Chris Thomas, who led the police investigation, said: "Lila Robertson's death is truly tragic. At just 10 weeks old she was shaken to death by her own father and it's clear from the injuries found on her body that this was not the first time she had been injured deliberately. "We know from experts that 11 of Lila's ribs had been broken in the weeks leading up to her death, along with her leg and collarbone. She would have spent much of her short life in great pain. "This was a particularly difficult case for officers to work on. What happened to Lila was distressing and made more so by the fact that Robertson denied any involvement in his daughter's death right up until his trial. "I'd like to thank the officers, experts and prosecution team who worked to secure and present evidence in this case. Without their dedication, we may not have seen justice for Lila." |
