A new Community Champion Awards Scheme is being launched in 2008 to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and spirit of those who work so tirelessly to improve their local community in Broxtowe Borough. Nominations are being sought from the community for people who have volunteered or carried out work above and beyond their normal paid work. Over the coming weeks Broxtowe Borough Council is looking forward to hear the stories of those people living in the Borough who have carried out good works, battled diversity or who worked selflessly to make their community a better, safer and more pleasant place to live. The awards aimed at finding these remarkable and inspirational real-life heroes who deserve recognition for their outstanding efforts. There are 7 award categories including: The safe borough - for those who work to reduce crime and make our Borough a safer place to live. A growing borough - for those who have helped businesses improve. A healthy borough - for those who have helped put better health services or facilities into their community or help people lead a healthier lifestyle. A clean and green borough - for those who have worked to make the borough cleaner or greener or helped people to become more environmentally friendly. Children and young people - for those who have worked to give children and young people a voice or helped them to show what they can do. A happy borough - for those who have helped to make their community a better place to live and help everyone get on and work together. Officer award - for an officer from any organisation who has shown outstanding dedication or made an exceptional contribution to the Borough. "The reasons to nominate someone are endless but might for example include looking after a neighbour, ensuring that the local area is kept free of litter and rubbish, helping young people or local businesses to improve. The nominee could be a local resident or volunteer," said Councillor Ken Rigby, Cabinet member for Planning and Community Development at Broxtowe Borough Council. "I do hope we receive lots of nominations so that we can pay tribute to this otherwise unknown group of people." The deadline for nominations is 1 January 2009 and the award will be presented at a special evening event in March 2009. Awards can be given to individuals or groups. A nomination form can be downloaded on the website at www.broxtowe.gov.uk or contact 0115 917 3492 for further information. |
