Important update - bin collections during this week's strike by Unison/Unite staff at Harrow Council Due to industrial action there will be no bin collections at around 34,000 households on Wednesday and Thursday this week (July 16 and 17). If you have your waste collected on Wednesday or Thursday for blue recyclable or residual waste collection, please leave your bin out and we will endeavour to collect this by Sunday July 20. For the organic (brown) bin: as this is a weekly collection the bin will be collected on the next scheduled collection dates - ie Wednesday and Thursday 23 and 24 July. All food waste should be wrapped tightly in newspaper to prevent flies and smells and please compress as much as possible into the brown bin. This strike action, being taken over a national pay dispute between the unions and the Local Government Employers, is likely to have an impact on a number of council services. We expect that the main rubbish tip at Forward Drive, Wealdstone, will be closed and there will be disruption to street cleaning. There will be limited disruption to social services and a small number of libraries may be affected. It is likely that some schools may be affected on both days although closures are not expected. Individual schools will be notifying parents and guardians directly of the precise situation at their child's school. Access Harrow and the benefits section will continue to operate as normal. www.harrow.gov.uk |
