Ben Kinsella: Fresh appeals made Detectives investigating the murder of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella have made fresh appeals for information. At a press conference on Wednesday 2 June, DCI John Macdonald joined Brooke Kinsella in making a fresh appeal for witnesses to give police information about the murder of Ben, 16, who was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday in Islington. DCI Macdonald said: "We have had useful evidence from people who have come forward and I'm very grateful to them but we do believe there are people with crucial information who have yet to contact us. "That may be because they don't want to get involved, they think other people are bound to come forward or that because we have made arrests we have everything we need. "I am telling those people now that it is vital to this enquiry for them to come forward. The minimum I would ask is that you make yourselves known to us and talk over what you saw or have heard. We can then assess the value of your information and at least you know you've given some assistance to us. "We understand fear may also be a reason why people don't want to come forward but just talk to us and tell us what you know and let us convince you we can help protect you. If we can't, you can walk away. "I am asking parents whose children went to Shillibeers pub that night and who were out in North Road afterwards to talk to them. They may have told you they saw nothing, or that they only saw minor incidents. "Some of them, for whatever reason, may have felt uncomfortable about revealing everything they know. I would ask parents to sit their children down, talk to them and find out what they know." It is thought between 100 and 150 people were inside the venue at the time and another 15-20 may have been in the area where the stabbing took place. DCI Macdonald added that Ben was an entirely innocent victim. He said: "This began over a minor incident in the pub involving some of Ben's associates and a group of people.Ben had nothing to do with it. He was chased and stabbed probably just because he was the one they caught up with." A post-mortem carried out on 30 June at St Pancras Mortuary revealed cause of death as multiple stab wounds. Brooke Kinsella said: "Members of the public have provided significant information to the police in the last few days. We are very grateful to those people for coming forward. "Unfortunately, the police have told us they know of others who could provide crucial evidence, but they have chosen not to tell police what they know. "I have been told that Ben's murder will be very difficult to solve unless those witnesses come forward to assist." Six people have been arrested during the investigation. Three males remain in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3985. http://cms.met.police.uk/news/ |
