School students in Cheltenham and Gloucester will learn about the consequences of binge drinking in a hard-hitting drama production this week. Gloucestershire County Council Trading Standards Service has organised a series of presentations free of charge at venues in Cheltenham and Gloucester. The drama aimed at Year 9 students, vividly demonstrates the problems and implications of drinking alcohol underage. It is hoped that over 700 students will be able to attend. The "Last Orders" project consists of a play, performed by the Solomon Theatre Company - which follows a group of teenagers on a typical night - and shows how their drinking can affect their immediate lives, as well as their future careers and friendships. Underage drinking and alcohol use are common factors that link anti-social behaviour, teenage pregnancy, STIs and illegal purchase of age restricted products Eddie Coventry, Head of Trading Standards, commented: We are pleased to be able to organise this event which has been made possible by funding from the Cheltenham Health and Wellbeing Partnership. We have done a lot of work with traders across the County and this gives us the opportunity to get the message across to young people. This drama has been used in other regions and has been proved to be an effective way of educating young people about underage drinking and other social issues". http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6551 |
