Record producer's work auctioned - 04-09-2008

Original music master tapes recorded by record producer Joe Meek are due to be auctioned.

Gloucestershire-born Meek, who died in 1967, was responsible for 60s hits like Telstar by the Tornados.

Some 2,000 recordings, to be auctioned in London, include work by David Bowie and Tom Jones.

They are valued at £3,000, having been bought for £400 after Meek's death. His family, who still live in Newent, said they were pleased with the sale.

The auction takes place at the Idea Generation Gallery in Shoreditch on Thursday evening.
