Gloucestershire weather warning - 03-09-2008

GLOUCESTERSHIRE residents are being warned to brace themselves for a deluge on Friday.

The Met Office has issued a warning for heavy rain on Friday, predicting a 60 per cent chance of disruption in Gloucestershire.

Dursley-based weather expert Ian Thomas said there is the potential for between 30-50mm of rainfall throughout the day on Friday.

"It is a very deep Atlantic low coming in from the West and there is the potential for between 30-50mm of rain.

"That's a lot of water and it will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts of between 50 and 60mph.

"Most of the rain will fall throughout the day on Friday but it is falling on sodden ground so there is the potential for surface water flooding in the usual places like Tredworth Road bridge and the railway bridge in Stonehouse."

The Environment Agency has no current flood warnings in place for Gloucestershire.
