Murder police return to village - 17-05-2008

Kate Prout Mrs Prout was last seen at her home in Redmarley on 5 November 2007

Police investigating the suspected murder of a Gloucestershire woman are due to begin new house-to-house enquiries in her village.

Kate Prout, 55, disappeared from her farm in Redmarley last Bonfire Night, but her body has never been found.

Her 45-year-old husband Adrian, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has had his bail extended to September.

A police spokesman said they hoped the enquiries would yield new leads not considered by the original team.

Letters have been sent to all Redmarley residents explaining why detectives are returning to the village on Friday and over the weekend.

In it DS Kelly said: "I am completely satisfied that Kate did not leave of her own volition. She made no preparations to leave and there has been no trace of her since 5 November.

"The only reasonable conclusion is that she is no longer alive.

"Had she been the victim of illness or some other misadventure I have no doubt that she would have been found. Our enquiries have satisfied me that Kate had no intention of causing herself any harm and consequently I believe that Kate has been the victim of crime."

On Friday and over the weekend police are going from house to house in the Forest of Dean village asking fresh questions about her disappearance but a Gloucestershire police spokesman said no breakthrough had been made so far.

Mrs Prout spent 20 years as a teacher before taking early retirement.
