Auchenback Primary School, Barrhead, is excellent - three times over. The 177-pupil East Renfrewshire school has been given three ‘excellents' by HMIe in their report on the school published today. Care, welfare and development, the engagement of staff in the life and work of the school and developing people and partnerships all received the ‘excellent' accolade. Eleven aspects were found to be ‘very good', including the curriculum, teaching, meeting learning needs, involving parents, carers and families, as well as expectations and promoting achievement. The leadership of head teacher Marion Roy and her staff was highlighted as a key strength of the school along with pupils' achievements and the quality of pastoral care. Only two points for action were listed both building on existing good practice: continuing to focus on improving pupils' learning and achievement and continuing to develop approaches to self-evaluation in line with the ethos and culture of the school. Head teacher Marion Roy said: "The report is a tribute to the hard work of our pupils, staff and parents. Everyone at the school is delighted with the report which recognises our considerable strengths and emphasises the fact that we are a real community school. The two action points identified ask that the school continues to build on our existing good practice ensuring Auchenback's continued improvement." Councillor Alan Lafferty East Renfrewshire Council education convener said: "My congratulations go to Mrs Roy and all at Auchenback for an excellent report. I was particularly pleased the inspectors noted that parents said their children enjoyed going to school and that is a measure of the success of Mrs Roy and her team's hard work. The inspectors won't be back in connection with this report as they noted the strong record of improvement and the very effective leadership of the school and those are real strengths which the council values greatly." www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk |
