Provost Alex Mackie of East Renfrewshire Council has expressed his sorrow at the news of the death of Tommy Burns of Celtic and Scotland. Provost Mackie said: "I am very sorry to hear of Tommy's death and my thoughts and the thoughts of all councillors and staff are with his wife and family. Tommy was a superb ambassador, on and off the pitch, for his team, for Scotland and for East Renfrewshire where many people knew him as a valued member of our community and as a poweful role model for our young people. He will be greatly missed." Tommy's children all attended St Ninian's High School, Giffnock and the youngest left last August. Head teacher John Docherty said: "Tommy and the Burns family were very much part of the St Ninian's school community and many staff and pupils remember them well and have expressed their sorrow today. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this sad time." www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk |
