Homecoming Scotland is a series of events and activities that will create a year-long celebration of a world-changing past, a vibrant present and an inspiring future. 2009, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, is the year that AffinityScots from all over the world will be encouraged to visit Scotland to celebrate the country, its culture and its people, as it marks the achievements of a modern, confident and dynamic nation. The overall aims of Homecoming Scotland are to: boost Scotland's economy; encourage AffinityScots to visit Scotland during 2009 and influence them to come back thereafter; provide businesses, organisations, community groups and educational institutions across Scotland with new opportunities; stimulate a sense of belonging and civic pride amongst the people of Scotland and AffinityScots. AffinityScots are people who have an affinity in some way with Scotland, whether via family links, having visited or studied here, or simply because they're a whisky drinker or golf lover. AffinityScots in key markets (US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe) will be targeted internationally via a range of channels. As well as marking Burns' anniversary, Homecoming Scotland will celebrate another four key pillars: Enlightenment & Innovation, Golf, Whisky and Your AncestorsHomecoming Scotland is funded by the Scottish Executive, delivered by a small dedicated project team and supported by a number of public and private bodies. The celebration provides considerable opportunities for businesses, community groups, educational institutions or organisations to ‘play their part'. The Homecoming Scotland team is on hand to advise how 2009 can be used to your benefit including the use of the Homecoming Scotland marque in existing or specially created events and activities http://www.homecomingscotland.com/
