Fife News : New Forth Bridge will go ahead as Scheduled - 10-10-2008
|
SNP Candidate for the Glenrothes by-election Councillor Peter Grant welcomed comments by Alex Salmond at First Minister's Questions today (Thursday) that the Scottish Government is pressing ahead with plans to build a new Forth Bridge.
Mr Salmond said the project would go ahead as scheduled, and that the Cabinet Secretary for Finance John Swinney would be making an announcement to the Scottish Parliament on funding for the bridge soon.
Cllr Grant said:
"Today's comments by the First Minister are very welcome and further underscore the SNP's commitment to Fife. With the SNP Government scrapping tolls on the Forth Bridge and taking decisive action to reinstate the Rosyth-Zeebrugge ferry this further confirms how voting SNP works for Fife.
"The decision by the SNP Government to press ahead with a new Forth crossing will be welcomed by the people of Fife and dispel any uncertainty for local commuters and businesses alike.
"The SNP Government has already honoured its promise to announce its preferred option and in doing so has acted on an issue that the previous Labour and Liberal Democrat Executive dragged their feet on.
"This restatement of that commitment is a decision that will not just benefit Fife but the whole of the east of Scotland." |
