Fife Council Building Services are launching a campaign aimed at van drivers in a bid to raise awareness about the correct speed for goods vehicles. Around 100 transit vans and 50 of the smaller transit connect vans will have the correct speed transfers on the back doors and vehicles will be allocated to central, east and west depots to gain maximum coverage across Fife. The campaign was developed by Fife Safety Camera Partnership who part fund the project. Andy Jones, Manager, Fife Safety Camera Partnership said: "Driver education is an important area of work for the Partnership and we have become increasingly aware there is some confusion, by drivers, about the correct speed for the goods vehicle classification. The fleet upgrade by Building Services is an ideal opportunity to address this and we are again showing that partnership working has benefits for all drivers of similar vehicle types using Fife's road network." The speed limit for goods vehicles (not exceeding 7.5 tonnes max. laden weight) is 50mph on a single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways. Ken Gourlay, Head of Asset and Facilities Management, Fife Council said: "The speed awareness transfers will highlight to our own Fife Council drivers what the safe speed limits are for these type of commercial vehicles. It will also make the public in Fife, especially commercial vehicle drivers, aware of the safe driving speed that should be observed when driving these class of vehicles on single and dual carriageway roads." |
