FILM Review 2008 FIFE Council's Development Services and partners celebrated the success of the FILM initiative (Fife Intermediate Labour Market) - an innovative jobs training programme - at an event held at the Rothes Halls on Friday 27 June. The FILM celebration looked back over the past four years and showcased the many success stories that the project has generated. The project helps people cross the bridge from training into full-time work. Since its conception in June 2004 FILM has delivered over £7.4 million of environmental projects across the Kingdom's regeneration areas and helped over 100 individuals to move into jobs. To date FILM has attracted £2.5 Million of European Funding from the Eureopean Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF). FILM works with companies who can provide employment opportunities for young people and adults across the Kingdom on a range of areas from administration to environmental projects. Over 50 companies have signed up to the project. Companies that take part are offered a funding and support package, meaning that both employers and trainees benefit. Environmental projects have helped improve access and enjoyment for local people and visitors in Fife's regeneration areas and included: - Providing more parks and picnic area
- Creating green spaces in towns and village
- Refurbishing playparks
- Improvements to footpath networks
At the event, delegates heard first hand about the experiences of employers and what FILM has achieved, as well as the benefits brought to local communities involved. Violeta Ilendo, Development Manager with Fife Council's Development Services said: "Since June 2004 FILM has pioneered a new way of working in Fife. We and our partners have successfully built training and recruitment outcomes into key capital projects that are improving the local environment of regeneration areas throughout Fife. FILM is an excellent example of how a real difference can be made for unemployed people by working innovatively in partnership with other organisations." |
