Fareham is a market town situated in the South East of Hampshire. The town was found to have a low unemployment and crime rate in comparison to other areas in England. Coinciding with this, the house prices were also found to be higher than other towns. Fifteen percent of the population in Fareham work in the retail industry making retail its most active economy.
There are many attractions in Fareham, one of the being Bursledon Brickworks which showcase the last Victorian steam driven brickworks in England. It was built in the late eighteenth century and gives a vivid example of the country's industrial past. There are a variety of things to do for children such as ‘live' steam and a chance to throw your won bricks around. Alongside this, children can get involved with activities including crafts and traditional materials. This is a place where visitors can acquire key knowledge about Fareham's history and technology.
For a more picturesque view of Fareham, Holly Hill Woodland Park is a beautiful and historic park land. It is traditionally known as a woodland park consisting of magnificent landscapes which go back to the 1870's and have continually been developed since. The park was purchased by the Fareham Borough Council in 1954. In Holly Hill Woodland Park you will find two separate areas identified as Winnards Copse and Cawtes Copse. At Winnards Copse there are lakes and various exotic species whereas Cawtes Copse is home to woodland species of a native origin.
For another ideal location when visiting Fareham, you can explore the Westbury Manor Museum which opened in 1990 and takes a historical trip through the foundations of Fareham. In order to illustrate this effectively the museum has used sound effects, objects, archive material and much more. Towards the rear of the museum is an enchanting garden built in a style that is authentically Victorian and to accompany this is a coffee lounge.
Porchester Castle is also a great place to visit. This castle is where a naval base was built by the Romans going right back to the third century acting as a safe guard from attacks made to the town. To this day the walls are in excellent condition highlighting their strength in structure for defence in the North of Europe. From here you are able to embark on breathtaking views over Portsmouth Harbour. There are interactive Exhibitions within the castle focusing on the complexities of Roman control on England alongside vibrant performances of the era.
