Operation Orchard: Police release CCTV of suspects on anniversary of rape in Southampton - 07-10-2008
|
Detectives from the Major Crime Department in Southampton are today releasing CCTV of two men they want to question about a rape that happened in Southampton exactly a year ago on October 4.
The victim, who was 19 at the time, was on her way from the Edge Nightclub to meet a friend near the Jet Garage on Northam Road when two men tried to befriend her and asked her to go with them. She said no and as she walked along a pathway alongside Northam Rd at the end of Derby Rd and Nothumberland Road one of the men forced her against a wall and raped her. It was shortly after 3am on Thursday October 4 2007.
The two men police want to question about the rape were last seen on CCTV walking down St Albans Road a short time later.
Officers have followed up many leads since the rape happened but so far they have not led to any arrests.
They are now releasing the CCTV of two men they'd like to trace in connection with the incident. They hope that someone may be able to identify them.
The man who carried out the attack is described as: Black, about 6ft tall, stocky build and aged in his early 20s. He also had a goatee beard and spoke English was a strong African type accent. He wore a grey Adidas hoodie with a large dark logo on the centre of the chest area and a black buckled belt and dark trousers.
The other man was also black and was about 5ft 8ins tall. He is described as scrawny and in his early 20s again with strong African type accent. He wore a distinctive yellow zip up jacket and plain blue jeans with white trainers.
Detective Sergeant Steve Mardon said: "We hope this CCTV will either jog someone's memory that was a witness on the night and saw the men in the area or that someone will recognise them from the pictures and CCTV. The victim is still suffering from the effects of this ordeal a year on and I would urge anyone with information about who the suspects may be to contact me."
