East Hants residents asked – are you in Neighbourhood Watch? - 05-09-2008
|
Residents in East Hampshire are being encouraged to set up Neighbourhood Watch schemes in their area.
Successful schemes already exist but officers want to increase the number of groups in areas such as Whitehill, Bordon, Liphook, Headley, Headley Down and Grayshott.
Neighbourhood Watch encourages better home and personal security, creating an awareness of crime in a positive way. It enables residents to take ownership of their immediate community and be proactive in their approach to the environment.
Sergeant Phil Shore, from the Whitehill Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "We already have a number of schemes running successfully at the moment but we want to build up a bigger network which will give us a larger audience who can be the eyes and ears of the police.
"The benefits are varied; members can help to prevent and detect crime, pass information between the police and local residents and above all, improve the quality of life for all."
Officers are planning to arrange open meetings to advise residents how to set up a scheme and would like to hear from anyone who is interested. News Source: http://www.hampshire.police.uk |
