Witness appeal after man dies on A3M - 21-08-2008

Officers from the Cosham Roads Policing Unit are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic incident at 2.07am Wednesday. August 20, at junction five of the northbound A3M.

A 28-year-old man, who is believed to live locally, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after having been struck by at least one vehicle on the A3M.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Carisma van which struck him is a 38-year-old man from Ryde, Isle of Wight.  He was treated for shock at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service.

The victim's car, a Volkswagen Polo, was located a short distance from the scene on the B2177 Bedhampton Hill bridge above the A3M carriageway.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
