Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked by two other men in the communal area of Wellington Terrace, a residential block on Hanway Road, Portsmouth.
Between 6.30am and 6.45am on Friday, August 15, a 36-year-old man was leaving the property and was met in the stairwell by two men, both of whom were holding golf clubs.
One of the men swung his club and hit the 36-year-old man on the back of the head, knocking him to the floor. The men then continued to hit the man with the golf clubs for a few minutes until they ran out of the building, when it is thought a resident of the building may have disturbed them.
Nothing was taken from the injured man during the attack.
The men are described as:
Man 1: - White
- Aged in his 20s
- Around 6ft tall
- Stocky build
- Short hair
Man 2: - White
- Between 17 and 20 years of age
- Around 5ft 9ins tall
- Stocky build
- Short spiky hair
- Wearing a dark coloured tracksuit top
The man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Alexandra hospital for treatment. He sustained four broken ribs, three fractured ribs, severe bruising to his torso, and bruising on his head as a result of the incident.
PC Kristie White said, "This was an unprovoked attack that left the man involved with some serious and very painful injuries.
