Electricity remains the primary essential service issue for residents of Basra meaning that such projects are continually aiming to improve the electrical distribution system in the city. The opening ceremony saw a combined ribbon cutting by the Deputy Chairman of Basra Council, Mr Nusaif Jassem al-Ibadi and British Consul General in Basra, Nigel Haywood. The need for the substation was highlighted by the Provincial Reconstruction and Development Council as part of a two year infrastructure development plan. Over the 14 month period of installation, 26 jobs were created for the local workforce in addition to the five existing jobs for substation employees. News Source: http://www.mod.uk/ |
