SWIFT AEROBATIC GLIDER DISPLAY TEAM FORGES LINK WITH RAFA FOR THE 2008 DISPLAY SEASON - August 30th and 31st 08
|
A highlight for many at Air Shows around the country and a fixture at the RAFA Shoreham Air Show for a number of years is Guy Westgate flying his Swift S-1 Glider. The Team is also well established on the European Air Show circuit. Flying gliders since 1993, Guy has been 8 times National Glider Aerobatic Champion at unlimited level as well as having 3 World Championships under his belt. At the start of each display the Glider is towed to the required altitude by the tug aircraft where Guy commences his display bringing it right down to ground level whilst putting it through some stunning manoeuvres. The Swift Glider is the strongest aerobatic glider ever built with an unparalleled role rate. Only 35 were made in Poland between 1992 and 1997. To mark the 90th Anniversary of The Royal Air Force, Guy decided that he would support an RAF charity - and what better than The RAF Association. In what is a first for both RAFA and the Swift Team - the glider will be carrying the RAFA logo at events during this year Ed Jarron Secretary General of RAFA said "We consider it a great honour that Guy has decided to support us this year - it is his professionalism alongside other display pilots that encourage the public to attend the many shows that take place during the year which in the long term can only benefit the Association."The liveried glider was flown for the first time at the venue where Guy has gained much of his flying experience - the Southdown Gliding Club at Storrington, West Sussex. Guy, accompanied by a second glider, which carried Ed Jarron, RAFA Secretary General, soared over the Sussex countryside, ensuring that their route took them over Sussexdown, the long-term care home which has many ex-RAF personnel as residents. The Swift Aerobatic Team will be displaying at various Air Shows during the year and of course at Shoreham on August 30th and 31st. Look out for the new RAFA ‘livery' - and support the Association.
