Ministry Of Defence (South West) (MOD) RAF challenge to young people in Devon and Cornwall The RAF is coming to Plymouth to challenge the public with a series of exciting events to highlight some of the many careers available in the service. This unique three day experience takes place at the Sundial and involves challenging the public in: Intelligence: Participants will decode an intercepted radio transmission. Physical fitness: Participants test themselves against RAF entry requirements. Logistics: Participants need to load blocks representing food, medicine, personnel and military equipment into an aircraft. Engineering: Participants need to fix a mock-up pulley system on an aircraft to deliver food-aid. Starting at 10am each day from 5th - 7th September the prizes on offer for the best performers will be I-pods, Nintendo DS, portable DVD players and remote controlled helicopters (or equivalents). There will also be RAF personnel on hand to answer any queries and offer information on the RAF. Sqn Ldr Andy Walker, from the Plymouth recruitment office, said: "This special event will give people a valuable insight the careers available in the RAF in an informative and enjoyable way. "There are more than 50 different careers in the RAF with bases across the UK and around the world, from pilots to musicians and intelligence officers to dentists, air traffic controllers and chaplains. "People attending our event in Plymouth will be able to chat to recruitment personnel about what jobs might best suit them, the many available opportunities and about the benefits of joining the RAF. "The RAF is looking for over 4,500 new recruits, to fill a variety of vacancies. From school leavers to second jobbers, the RAF is asking people in Devon and Cornwall who are looking for a new, exciting and challenging career to come along." Refreshments from the RAF's Ration Station will also be available, along with screenings of a specially-made film about life in the RAF. Sqn Ldr Walker added: "With job opportunities in nearly all of our specialisations, whatever your interests and skills, the RAF has a role to suit you." In addition to the Challenge event, the RAF Careers team have also carried out publicity campaigns in Exeter, Torquay and Exmouth. New recruits can expect to receive a good starting salary and the opportunity to develop their skills. Minimum entry requirements and pay are dependent on trade.
