Temporary Closure of Redhills - 02-05-2008
|
Media Release 30 April 2008 On Thursday (1 May) the City Council will be closing Redhills in order to remove a hazard tree.
The tree, a large and mature Turkey Oak is sited on the south west bank, north west of the junction with Wellpark Close. Soil is eroding rapidly from under the roots of this tree, so its stability has been adversely affected.
The road will be closed between Wellpark Close and Higher Barley Mount. Traffic will be diverted along Exwick Road, Winchester Avenue, Gloucester Road and Lichfield Road. The diversion will be in effect from 8am to 5pm.
Trees that have grown up together in a group, work together as a group in the wind. When significant parts of the group are removed, remaining members are exposed to new winds, and failure of remaining trees is common. The Council will therefore remove the remaining three trees in the summer. |
