Pedigree Dorset Sheep Show At Exeter Livestock Centre - 02-05-2008
|
Media Release 30 April 2008 The Dorset Sheep Society will be holding its annual Show and Sale of Pedigree Sheep on Tuesday and Wednesday (6&7 May) at Exeter Livestock Centre, where an entry of approximately 3,000 sheep will be offered for sale.
Despite the problems of Bluetongue, which has restricted entries from several areas of England (including Dorset itself) there is still an excellent selection, with sellers bringing stock from as far as Yorkshire and Northern Ireland. Dorset sheep are becoming exceptionally popular as they are the only breed to produce two sets of lambs a year and a have very high wool and meat quality.
The show is held on the Tuesday prior to Wednesday's sale with keen competition between many of the country's leading breeders and the champion ram would be expected to sell for in excess of £2,000gns. With this quality of livestock on offer there has been keen interest from buyers throughout the country and bidding is anticipated to be brisk with prices considerably higher than in previous years. |
