Tourist Attractions in Dunstable

Welcome to Dunstable, a market town established by Henry I which sits on the cross roads of two Roman roads, the Icknield Way and Watling Street.

Dunstable sits in the heart of the English countryside nestling in the Chiltern Hills and this forms much of the activity available to visitors in the area.

The Dunstable Downs are a magnificent sight and are part of the Chilterns. From high up, views across the downs are spectacular. They provide the perfect venue for many flying based activities including flying kites and hang gliding. They also provide the base for the London Gliding Club. It is possible for the general public to book up for gliding experiences with the club and experience the Dunstable Downs breathtaking scenery from high up on the thermals.
The Dunstable Downs is also home to Chilterns Gateway Centre. From here you can purchase a kite to fly, or various souvenirs and publications. A Café is available for your refreshment requirements and information on the site of specific scientific interest that includes Bronze Age burial mounds and a Norman rabbit warren.

Also sited in the Dunstable Downs is the famous Whipsnade Zoological Park.
Now you can combine views of the Dunstable Downs whilst meeting some spectacular animals. The zoo can be viewed either from the free Safari Bus or from taking the Jumbo Express train adventure where you will see elephants, hippos, tigers, lions and giraffes all wondering around their enclosures.
In 2007 a new feature, ‘In with the Lemurs' was unveiled at Whipsnade Crossing over a bridge to their island means that you are able to get very up close and personal with the lemurs in a barrier free area.
Easter 2008 saw the unveiling of a new Cheetah experience. With a water feature and rock layout, the perfect environment was created for these speedy cats. Only the full-length glass surrounding the African Hut separates you from these magnificent animals
In the different environments of pools and paddocks you can see Lions of the Serengeti, Elephants and Sea lions - all in all a great day out in the Dunstable countryside.

Staying with the animal theme in the Dunstable area is Woodside Animal Farm and Leisure Park.
Here, you can feed and handle all manor of different creatures from regular farm animals through to more exotic breeds. Along with the tractor rides and rabbit cuddles, experience holding different retiles, go egg collecting and take part in a lollipop scramble.
Try the 18 hole crazy golf, the electric tractors and large sandpit. Further entertainment for the kids includes a country funfair, complete with teacup ride, helter skelter, trampolines and a bouncy castle. There are both indoor and outdoor activities to suit and keep everyone entertained all day.
There is something for everyone here, not just the kids. Mans best friend can enjoy a good polish up in the first ‘Self Service Doggie Wash' in the country. Meanwhile the adults can browse at the superb range of products in the farm shop or take part in the wide range of themed events that take place throughout the year.

There is plenty to see and do in and around the town of Dunstable.
