88 Minutes 88 Minutes stars Al Pacino as a forensic psychiatrist, Jack Gramm, working for the FBI, who is instrumental in convincing a Jury that Jon Forster is a serial killer and gets him a death row sentence. 9yrs later, days before the execution date of Jon Forster, Jack receives a death threat saying he has 88 miuntes left to live. convinced that Jon Forster is behind it all, Jack sets out to find his antagonist as people all around him start going missing and getting killed. Jack soon finds out he is slowly being implicated and framed for these new murders. This film has been heavily knocked by many film critics as a load of nonsense and a waste of Pacino's talent, I However enjoyed the film. There was not a great amount of action and there were one or two shaky moments but in general it was a good thriller which kept you guessing as to who the killer is. Don't listen to the film critics on this one and go see it. Righteous Kill Al Pacino also stars in this one along with Robert Deniro who play a couple of retiring cops who are searching for a serial killer who's killing off bad guys. It soon gets established that the guilty party may well be a Cop. This is another film which was heavily knocked by the film critics and although the, so called, "Twist" is so transparent that even an infant could work it out, it is still a good story and worth a watch. Again not much action ( maybe Pacino & Deniro are getting a little old for action scenes) but an OK story. Death Race
Death Race, on the other hand, has absolutely no story but lots of action in the form of racing cars, explosions, gruesome kills and hot girls. Jenson Ames ( Jason Statham ) is framed for his wifes murder in 2012 in a time when prisons are governed by independant, for profit, organisations. One way of making their money is by pitting the scumbags of the earth against each other in Gladiator style competitions. He is wanted by the prison warden for his driving abilities to enter a competiton called the "Death Race" and impersonate a popular competitor " Frankenstein " who was recently killed. If it is found out that Frankenstein has been killed then the ratings will drop and her prison will lose money. This is definately one for the boys and apart from one slight inconsistency is an enjoyable smash em up and shoot em up romp. |
