Thousands of residents will receive a questionnaire later this month asking them what they think about living in Derbyshire. The ‘Place Survey' is designed to give householders the chance to have their say on a range of issues which affect their quality of life such as community safety, local public services and how well informed they feel. It's a new kind of survey developed by the Government to focus on the benefits local public services provide for residents in their own communities. All local councils will carry them out every two years. Derbyshire County Council is carrying out this year's survey on behalf of Derbyshire Partnership Forum (DPF), a countywide group of public, private, voluntary and community sector organisations working together to improve life locally. County council leader and DPF chairman Councillor John Williams said: "This opinion survey is a great way to hear what local people think about Derbyshire and about us. "It helps keep us on our toes and make sure we're doing what local people want us to. "That means delivering high quality services, when and where they're needed. Importantly, it gives local people the chance to tell us what we need to do better - that's why we want as many people as possible to return their survey form." The survey will be posted to 5,000 randomly selected homes over three weeks from September 25 and ask residents questions on issues including: - What it's like to live in their local area
- Local public services
- Community safety
- Respect and consideration
- Local decision-making and how well-informed residents feel
Instead of focusing on policies and procedures of individual councils and organisations, the survey focuses on the benefits local people can see. It recognises no single organisation can meet the differing needs of every community and the best way of helping people feel happier, healthier and safer is through organisations working together. The survey results - collected by independent auditors - will go to the Government in December. They will be published in future editions of the county council's Insight newspaper and on www.derbyshire.gov.uk For more information about the survey residents can Call Derbyshire on 08 456 058 058 - District and borough councils will be issuing similar questionnaires this month to help them plan their services. In total 45,000 residents will receive them.
