An award-winning Derbyshire school chef has scooped another national prize for the quality of her work. Lynette Tinney, catering supervisor at Coton-in-the-Elms Primary School, has won the cost sector chef title in the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards thanks to her professionalism, motivation and skills. She picked up her prize at a prestigious awards ceremony hosted in London which recognise chefs of outstanding quality for their service to the industry. Judges were won over by Lynette's enthusiasm and the "innovative" ways she and her team help pupils take up healthy eating. Lynette said: "I'm so delighted to have won and I think this is a wonderful thing for my team and school because it shows our hard work is worth all the effort. "The pupils were thrilled with our success and we celebrated at a special assembly so it's been a real boost. "This award is not just for me - it recognises everyone working hard in the school sector and I'd like to thank everyone involved." The prestigious title was previously won by another Derbyshire caterer in 2005 when Sue Wills of Hasland Hall Community School took the prize. Councillor Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for schools, said: "This is another fantastic success for Lynette and yet again she has put Derbyshire on the national map for excellence for our school meals. "We're really proud of her and this achievement reflects the importance we place on having a superb workforce to give school pupils healthy and nutritious food to fuel their minds and bodies. "A good lunch gets children firing on all cylinders and helps them have active minds and bodies and it's all thanks to people like Lynette and her team. "Their menus show you can offer pupils good quality meals while working to a budget and producing them in large quantities." Lynette is no stranger to tasting success in awards as she was named Local Authority Caterers Association School Chef of the Year 2007. The Craft Guild of Chefs was established in 1965 as a guild of the Cookery and Food Association and it has developed into the leading Chef's Association in the UK. |
