Warning to people rummaging through bins in Buxton. - 26-06-2008
|
Buxton Town Safer Neighbourhood Team has been putting up notices across the town centre to deter people from rummaging through shop bins. Local residents and shop owners raised concerns about the mess and noise nuisance caused by people who go through the bins kept at the back of a number of shops in the area. The problem has been especially noticed around charity shops in the town. PC Phil Kirby of Buxton Town Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "The notices will hopefully act as a deterrent to offenders. They point out that their behaviour is an offence and we will be taking positive action against any offenders. "It's not fair for shopkeepers and other residents to put up with this kind of behaviour. We'll be liaising with local councillors and hope to bring in a by-law to also allow the county council to prosecute anyone found going through bins."
