Festival of storytelling arrives at Buxton - Sat 27th Sept
|
Visitors are invited to weave a magical world of cave lore, fact and fiction as part of story telling events at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.Derbyshire County Council's Buxton Museum and Art Gallery is one of over 50 museums, libraries and archives across England taking part in the Festival of Storytelling. This is part of Open Weekend, a country wide event which marks the launch of the Cultural Olympiad. This is a four-year programme of culture across the UK, leading up to the 2012 Games. Storyteller Gordon MacLellan will be running two workshops at Buxton museum on Saturday 27 September. These will be inspired by objects, stories and legends linked to Derbyshire's famous caves such as Speedwell Cavern, Pooles Cavern and the Blue John Cavern. The workshops will help to bring the museum's collection of artefacts alive. Budding writers are invited to pop along and write their own stories inspired by cave legends and objects and even create a book to take home. Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for cultural services Bob Janes said: "Derbyshire's wealth of fascinating caves and legends will provide plenty of material for stories. "We hope to see lots of people come along and create their own, unique, stories based on the local area. "The event ties into a country wide series of cultural events that will lead upto the 2012 London Olympics." The workshops will run between 10.30am and 12pm and again between 1pm and 2.30pm. The workshops are free and suitable for families with children aged up to 10 years. For further details and to book places contact Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on 01298 24658 or email buxton.museum@derbyshire.gov.uk. |
