Guided Country Walk - Sund 13th July

Take the opportunity to see grassland in bloom on a dramatic Derbyshire hillside in July.

Derbyshire County Council's countryside service is holding a guided walk around Grin Low country park near Buxton.

The two mile walk will take place on Sunday 13 July from 11am to 1pm.

A countryside ranger will show how grazing of pastures and mowing of meadows preserves the plant life.
Walkers should see several orchids in bloom, thyme and other interesting limestone flora.
They may also see nesting jackdaws and kestrels on the old quarry.

Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for the environment Brian Lucas said: "Derbyshire is home to some breathtaking scenery."We hope that people will get out and about in the countryside to explore the wealth of natural wonders on their doorstep. "There is a wide variety of wildlife and plants waiting to be discovered and where better to begin then on one of Derbyshire County Council's guided walks."
Derbyshire County Council cares for more than 3,000 miles of public rights of way as well as maintaining many more miles of greenways, trails, canal and cycle paths. It also looks after 80 countryside sites ranging from large country parks to small picnic sites, reservoirs, canals, woodlands and even historic buildings.
The council's countryside service offers everything from cycle hire to horse riding, nature rambles to guided walks.

The walk will set off from Grin Low country park car park on Grin Low Road, near Buxton. Walkers are advised to bring suitable clothing and footwear.
Dogs on leads and families are welcome but there is a steep climb and stiles on the route.

The cost of the Grin Low walk is £2 and concessions are £1.
Bring a picnic if you want to take part in lunch afterwards.
