GET CREATIVE AT DERBYSHIRE DAY OF ART - Sat 5th July

Let your creative skills loose and meet renowned wildlife artist Pollyanna Pickering at the first Derbyshire Day of Art organised by Derbyshire County Council. Pollyanna will be demonstrating her work as well as hosting a small exhibition of paintings, limited editions, cards and books during the day which also features creative workshops and displays.The day of art is designed to showcase the dozens of arts and crafts classes run by the county council's adult community education service. It also gives people the opportunity to learn a new skill and meet a well-known artist. It takes place on Saturday, July 5, at Clay Cross Adult Community Education Centre, Market Street, from 10am-4pm.
Visitors can take part in day-long and half-day workshops based around sustainability and conservation, including weaving bags from recycled plastic and 3D recycled art. All the classes are taught by experienced, qualified tutors. People taking part will be able to produce high-quality finished pieces of work to take home. Other workshops on the programme include:

Be creative with your digital photographs
Botanical illustration in watercolours
Funky Bags using recycled materials
Still Life
Organic Growing
Hand-made paper and cards

Half-day workshops are £20-£25 per person, full-day workshops are £35. Workshop participants will be able to watch well-known wildlife artist Pollyanna Pickering at work and talk to her about her art and conservation work.There will be stalls selling sustainable crafts and refreshments including low food miles lunches using local produce. For visitors not attending workshops, admission is £5 with half going to the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation which campaigns for conservation and animal welfare. The authority's cabinet member for cultural services, Councillor Bob Janes, said the day was a fantastic opportunity to get some hands-on experience. "We've got lots or workshops during the day helping people learn interesting and sustainable arts and crafts," he said.
