A Summer of activities for young people - 13-07-2008

A Series of summer activities for children are taking place in Chesterfield over the school holidays.
 
Dunston, Moor and St Helen's Safer Neighbourhood Team has organised Summer Sessions for young people in the area. Activities include two fun days at local parks, 5-a-side football sessions and a day of sports.
 
The first fun day will take place at Stand Road Park on Thursday July 31 from noon.
 
There will be workshops in spray painting, music, DJ-ing and break-dancing as well as the chance to play a variety of sports.
 
The 5-a-side football sessions will run at Queens Park Leisure Centre from 10am on Saturday August 23 and 30 and Saturday September 6.
 
Every Friday through the school holidays, young people will have the chance to try their hand at a variety of sports at Newbold Community School.
 
Sessions start at 1.30pm and will be held on August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and September 5.
 
The second Fun day will take place on Loundsley Green park on Thursday September 4 from noon.
 
Workshops in spray painting, music, DJ-ing and break-dancing will be available again and sports will be played.
 
All the activities are completely free.
 
PCSO Dale Johnson has organised the events, he said: "When we talk to young people, they say there is nothing for them to do in the area.
 
"We hope by providing a variety of activities over the school holidays we will solve this problem and get to know more members of the community.
 
"Activities like this also help us build on relationships between the police and young people."
