Action plan drawn up to combat anti-social behaviour - 05-05-2008
|
A successful police surgery at Newbold Library led to an action plan being drawn up to combat anti-social behaviour in the area. PCs Stephen O'Callaghan and Neil Taylor of the Dunston, Moor and St Helen's Safer Neighbourhood Team held the surgery on Thursday April 24. It was attended by two councillors and more than 35 members of the public. The idea of the drop-in surgery was for residents to air their concerns, meet the Safer Neighbourhood Team and raise any issues they have. PC O'Callaghan said: "One of the main concerns people told us about was anti-social behaviour around the Windermere/Buttermere Close area which also incorporates the library. "Some problems included youths climbing on the roofs, drinking alcohol and being anti-social. "There are a lot of elderly residents in that area that are affected by this." The team, working with residents and partnership agencies have now come up with an action plan to target the area. A Neighbourhood Watch group is being set up, police officers and PCSOs will patrol the area at the times the problems are most common, the area will be included in the Safer Neighbourhood Team's priorities and meeting are to be held with the library and the council about improving lighting and visibility in the area. PC Taylor said: "The day was very successful from our point of view. We spoke to several residents, found out what issues they wanted us to tackle and worked together to build up an action plan. "Safer Neighbourhoods is about all aspects of the community working together to make Chesterfield even safer and this is a great example of that partnership." |
