A £30 MILLION Camden Council investment which will see two new care homes built and a new resource centre has moved a step closer to reality. The Executive has approved the recommendation that the Council retain ownership of the new care homes but identify a partner to build and manage the new facilities. It also approved the recommendation that the Council will be responsible for moving existing care home residents. In September 2007 the Executive agreed the multi-million pound investment to build two new care homes - at Maitland Park, NW3, and Wellesley Road, NW5 - with extra care sheltered housing where feasible. It also agreed to a new Charlie Ratchford Resource Centre with extra care sheltered housing on a site at Crogsland Road, part of the former Haverstock School, NW1. The Executive's decision follows a lengthy consultation process. Cllr Martin Davies, Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said: "From the outset the Council has been committed to involving care home residents, their relatives, staff, and indeed anyone else who would be affected by the proposals. "We believe that the right option has been chosen and are confident it provides the best balance between value for money, quality, cost, and continuity of care." Working groups, which include the architects, care home residents, care home staff, carers and local older people, will continue to be involved in every aspect of the project to ensure the new care homes best meet the needs and expectations of older people in Camden. http://www.camden.gov.uk/ |
