Aspiring filmmakers with dreams of becoming the next Scorsese could get the big break they are looking for thanks to a new initiative. Camden Council has teamed up with Enfield, Haringey and Islington councils to launch a scheme to give local people the skills they need to work in the film and media industry. The 'North London Film Fund' will offer an intensive training programme in all aspects of filmmaking, from scriptwriting and production to directing actors and practical filmmaking. After the course, the participants can apply for funding to make a short film and will receive professional support to transform their idea into a film. Mumina Khatun, age 18, took part on a similar Camden Council course last year. Her short film, The Knowledge, about a female taxi driver working in King's Cross, was screened at the Renoir. She said: "The course gave me a much greater knowledge of how the industry works, such as how to pitch ideas. I was interested in going into the film industry before, now I'm going to university to study film and TV." Cllr Andrew Marshall, Executive Member for Equalities and Community Development, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for local people interested in working in the creative industries to gain experience, learn new skills direct from professionals and ultimately, help them into work." The course runs from 2 to 12 September and is open to 18 year olds and over who live in Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. Films made on the course will also be entered into ‘the Bobs' (Best of Boroughs), a new prize for London short film-making. The awards have been launched by Film London, the capital's film and media agency, in partnership with ITV Local, the capital's broadband television service.
