Tourist Attractions
Chislehurst Caves
Hand-carved by Druids, Saxons and then the Romans, Chislehurst Caves extend for 20 miles through chalk, lime and flint. During the First World War it was used as a munitions store, then in the Second World War ias an air raid shelter, but in happier times it's been the location of numerous underground music concerts, and TV programmes such as Doctor Who and Merlin. Highly recommended for a visit!
Crofton Roman Villa
Situated next to Orpington Railway Station, Crofton Roman Villa dates a little further back than the age of the train - around 140 A.D. A modern outer building protects the remains of 10 Roman rooms within. Particularly recommended for children, with Roman costumes and mosaic making available.
Bromley Museum
Close to Orpington High Street, in the remains of Orpington Priory, Bromley Museum is home to numerous displays and exhibitions of local history, and admission is absolutely free! In the grounds you'll find a lake, walled garden, and lots of wildlife!
Down House - the home of Charles Darwin
Close to the village of Downe, the home of Charles Darwin until his death is largely unaltered and offers a fascinating glimpse of his domestic conditions whilst writing his famous book, "The Origin of Species". The grounds include Darwin's greenhouse, the site of some of his experiments, and are also open to the public.
Churchill Theatre
