Welcome to the Bromley Tourist Information pages.
The largest Borough in London, Bromley is also home to the largest area of London countryside, while still retaining its enviable position as one of London's most important business locations.
Around 300,000 people live in the Borough of Bromley. The majority are employed in the public services sector, although 25% of us are employed in the Business and Finance industries, and 30% of us are employed in the Professional and Managerial sectors. Overall, the Borough has one of the lowest unemployment rates in London.
There has been a recent increase in the number of people commuting into the Borough from London and further afield. The vibrancy of our Borough is also reflected in the different characteristics of each town: Orpington and Penge are dominated by the retail sector, while Beckenham is home to more restaurants and leisure activities.
By train, you can be in Central London in twenty minutes, connecting to a total of 26 rail stations in the Borough, or travel further out into the Kent countryside, and change at Ashford for the Continent and beyond...
By road, the Channel Tunnel is just over an hour away on the A20 and M20, and we are spoilt for choice for access to the M25... junctions 3 to 6 are located at the East and South of the Borough.
By air, we have our own airport at Biggin Hill, with Gatwick, Heathrow and London City Airports within easy reach.
Small wonder, then, that many famous people have lived or been born in Bromley: Charles Darwin, H.G.Wells, David Bowie, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Charles de Gaulle (during the Second World War he lived in Petts Wood), Richmal Crompton, Peter Frampton, and Michael York.
