Brighton News: Police 'keep your helmet on' prizes for young cyclists in Brighton and Hove - 29-08-2008
|
Sussex Police have launched 'Helmet Watch' by signing up to a National Scheme aimed at encouraging young people to wear a cycle helmet when they are riding their bike.
The scheme which is run by the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust has been launched in Brighton and Hove where local and road policing officers will be handing out prize envelopes to cyclists under 15 who are seen wearing a helmet. The pack contains a puzzle, a safe cycling information bookmark and a prize draw card which can be entered into a draw to stand a chance of winning a games console, computer games or a digital camera.
Insp Marc Clothier from the force's Road Policing Unit said "We are committed to reducing casualties across the County and are always looking at new ways in which we can make a difference. This scheme rewards those who are seen wearing a helmet and we hope this will encourage others to do so."
The scheme is being managed locally by Inspector Bill Whitehead from Brighton police station
