Sussex on top at close of play on first day - 28-08-2008
|
Sussex 292-5 at close On a day that was somewhat overshadowed by the announcement of Sussex legend Mushtaq Ahmed's decision to retire from Sussex County Cricket Club, the on-field action saw the Champions end up in a strong position on the first day of their LV County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Hove.
Winning the toss and batting, Sussex will be happy with their performance. Chris Nash and Mike Yardy put on 82 for the first wicket, when Nash fell for 28.
Yardy went on to score 64, before he was caught behind off the bowling of Mark Ealham. Murray Goodwin (79) and Carl Hopkinson also posted half centuries, with Hopkinson (53 not out) and Martin-Jenkins (13 not out) the overnight batsmen.
Sussex finished the day on 292 for 5 on a day that was dominated by the bat.
Tomorrow will see England Head Coach Peter Moores return to the green grass of Hove to say his goodbyes to Mushy in a presentation that will take place at tea. Entry will be free after 3pm to ensure that all can make it down to say goodbye to the great man. |
