Brighton News: Search for body in the sea resumes - 21-08-2008

Searches resumed yesterday morning to locate a body which was seen drifting in the sea Tuesday afternoon.

Police, the HM Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter and lifeguards were called at 2.40pm on Tuesday 19th August following reports that there was body in the water close to Brighton Pier.

Following an extensive search, a body was located in the water at around 4.10pm. Despite extensive efforts to recover the body, it was swept out to sea again caught in the heavy swell.

Ongoing enquiries are being conducted by police to ascertain whether clothing located on the beach could belong to the missing swimmer.
