Staff from Brighton & Hove's community learning disabilities service are celebrating working together under one roof. Almost 60 staff make up the Community Learning Disability Services, providing support and advice to people with learning disabilities and their families across the city. These include social workers, care managers, psychology, psychiatry, nurses and therapists, the Community Support Team and Adult Placement Scheme. Next Friday, 25 July, marks the official opening of the new offices at 86 Denmark Villas, Hove. The teams work to enable adults with learning disabilities in Brighton, Hove and Portslade to achieve more in their lives, make use of mainstream services and be fully included in the local community. Councillor Paul Lainchbury, deputy cabinet member for housing, will be cutting the ribbon to officially open the offices. He said: "It's great that all the staff providing this service are now under one roof. It means they can share expertise, as well as deliver all-round support. Having one point of contact is also an improvement for residents who can drop in for advice or appointments." Services for people with learning disabilities are commissioned jointly by Brighton & Hove City Council and the Primary Care Trust. Staff are employed by the city council or Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. The offices at 86 Denmark Villas are open 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, telephone (01273) 295550).
